Senior Designer

Grindstone is looking for a senior team member who faces creative challenges head on and relishes collaborating closely to efficiently develop and implement leading edge creative across a broad range of design disciplines.

This role brings creative leadership to Grindstone’s design team, working closely with the Creative Director and broader creative and digital teams.

We are working two days in the studio and three days remotely right now and will be for some time due to COVID. Our head office is in Geelong West, but we are flexible and open to continuing remote working post-COVID or a hybrid of on and off-site arrangement. Key responsibilities

  • High proportion of hands-on creative design execution, across a wide range of applications including branding and digital design, from concept to completion
  • Interpreting client briefs and briefing other designers where required, including translating complex data and information into graphic outputs
  • Helping to manage a small team of designers across branding and web design
  • Leading creative collaboration activities where needed, with designers, strategists and web developers
  • Potential project management
  • Continuously seeking innovation in design to help elevate the quality of Grindstone’s solutions
  • Art direction for photographic shoots where required
  • Direction of production management
  • Client liaison
  • Assisting to manage and evolve Grindstone’s visual identity

 

Typical design tasks

  • Branding design, including strategy, style guides
  • Web UI designs/UX considerations (wireframing if possible)
  • Report design concepts (including online reports)
  • Data visualization/infographics
  • Integrated campaign concepts and design (across traditional and digital media)
  • Interpretative & environmental design
  • Design of client tender documents and client presentations
  • Art direction on individual tasks

 

Skills Attributes & Experience

  • Minimum 5-8 years as a mid-weight to senior designer
  • Strong conceptual skills – a creative ideator
  • High-level creative design skills and a natural eye for cutting edge design, across a diverse range of applications including digital
  • Highly efficient, with the ability to produce high quality and compelling design solutions on time and on budget
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a well-supported collaborative environment
  • Ability to interpret briefs based on in-depth understanding of our clients
  • Strong skills using Adobe Creative Suite and other relevant software
  • Problem solving skills
  • Highly motivated, with a ‘fire in the belly’ for achieving innovative creative outcomes
  • Strategic thinker who understands business priorities
  • Collaborative in a cross-skilled team of designers, strategists and web developers
  • Strong branding and web UI/UX design capabilities
  • Ability to absorb and implement creative direction

As a senior creative, the incumbent must become quickly socialised with Grindstone’s ethos, values, priorities and processes. The right candidate will have the opportunity to develop within the team with the potential of a career pathways to roles such as Art Director, Creative Services Director etc.
