Big ideas for better lives
Summer Foundation
CHALLENGE
Big ideas for disability housing and living support need an online home that is scalable, flexible and accessible – reflecting innovation through research to change lives for the better.
Grindstone was engaged by the Summer Foundation to redesign and rebuild its website, with a renewed focus on the Foundation’s unique and visionary approach. Summer Foundation’s ability to think big and provide evidence-based solutions to problems faced by people living with disability has led to significant breakthroughs in disability housing and living support.
Grindstone’s challenge was to bring the Foundation’s important research and innovation work to the surface, through an improved information architecture and user interface design, while enabling our client to flexibly manage its content going forward. A focus on accessibility was a key requirement, based on the Foundation’s important role in the disability sector.
STRATEGY
Grindstone’s strategy was to use our expertise in experience design and our capacity for blue sky thinking to transform the Foundation’s website into an intuitive and compelling platform with a focus on both the Foundation’s vision and real life impact.
Collaborating closely with the project team, we reconfigured the website’s structure to define a new hierarchy of content to meet the needs of its key audiences, and reimagined the interface design using the Foundation’s new brand assets.
This has helped to recalibrate the Foundation’s online presence to better represent its important research and work in disability housing and living support.
We applied our expertise in online accessibility to ensure that the website is WCAG compliant, allowing people of all abilities to access its content.
OUTCOMES
The final product provides an immersive experience with live action video, animated transitions and mega menus. An improved, searchable news module showcases news items, newsletter editions, publications and other media in an easy to navigate media hub.
The introduction of research and policy libraries enables visitors to readily locate the information that’s relevant to them, including linking to external resources.
Grindstone’s modular approach to website design and development has also resulted in an intuitive and user-friendly back end, providing admins with a range of tools to present its content in the most effective and engaging ways.
